You've finished charging and you're ready to head out, but you can't get the charging cable out of the charge port. We understand this is frustrating and concerning. First off, remember that there is no locking mechanism on SWTCH’s level 2 charging stations. There are, however, locking mechanisms on certain EV models. We suggest trying the following steps:
- Make sure you've pressed the button on the top of the charger head, per the screenshot below, which allows the charging cable to unlatch from the port.
- Check your vehicle manual to see if there are any specific mechanisms for unlocking the charge port on your vehicle. See our article: How to find your vehicle manual article here?
- Make sure your vehicle doors are unlocked. Try unlocking the car doors several times using your key fob, as well as the physical lock on the inside of the car door.
- Check to see if there is a locking button next to the charge port. See example below of a charge port lock button on the Mustang Mach-E.
- Check to see if there is an auto-lock button enabled on the car dash. See example of an auto-lock button on the Hyundai Ioniq.
- Check to see if there is an emergency stop button on the vehicle in the form of a cord that can be pulled to release the charging cable. See example diagram below from the Kona Electric.
- If none of these options work, try searching the forums or YouTube to see if any information is available for your specific vehicle model.
