Charging using SWTCH's DC Fast Chargers is quick and easy. But before knowing how to start the charger, there are a few things to remember:
1. There are 3 possible ways to start the charger, either via the SWTCH mobile app, the SWTCH web app (website) or our RFID/charge card (if the unit has a reader). Be sure to create an account before starting a charging session.
2. We have 2 types of DC fast chargers. One is the 50kW DC fast charger, it adds ~250 km of driving range per hour of charging and second is the 25kW DC fast charger that adds ~150 km of driving range per hour of charging.
3. There are 2 connectors on our DC fast chargers, CCS and CHAdeMO. As of now, only one connector can be used at a time (if the CCS connector is plugged in, the CHAdeMO connector status will say ‘unavailable’).
4. Every EV model has a different nominal battery voltage and fast charging capacity. Each EV battery management system tells the DC fast charger how much power it can accept. Other factors impacting charging speed include temperature and battery state of charge. All EV batteries are designed to slow the rate of charging after 80% on DC fast chargers.
To start the charger, follow the steps below:
- Tap the RFID card on the charger if it has one. Or on the SWTCH web app or mobile app, enter the charger ID and hit the search icon. Once the the charger appears on the app, press "Select Charger" or "Start Charger".
- Plug in your car using either the CCS or CHAdeMO connector. and press the 'START CHARGING' button. For Tritium Veefil chargers, you need to press the blue button on the unit to start charging.
To stop the charging session, you just need to press the "End Charging" button on the app or tap the RFID card. Do not stop the charging session from your car's controls or by unplugging the connector.
