Some DC fast charge (level-3) stations on the SWTCH network now offer direct NACS/J3400 connector support for EV drivers. This allows Tesla vehicles to plug the connector directly into their vehicle without the use of a CCS Combo 1 or CHAdeMO adapter. However, there are still certain hardware requirements that Tesla drivers should be aware of, as not all vehicles are compatible.
To use a non-Supercharger NACS/J3400 connector for DC fast charging, a Gen4 charge port controller (ECU) is required. This is the same part required for vehicles to support the Tesla CCS Combo 1 Adapter.
Newer Tesla Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y vehicles should be already compatible. To determine if your vehicle is compatible, first ensure that you have the latest software installed for your vehicle. Then touch Controls > Software > Additional Vehicle Information on the touchscreen. Next to "CCS adapter support" you'll either see "Not installed" if the functionality is not currently supported or "Enabled" if it is supported. Please contact Tesla directly if you have any questions on this process or on compatibility with the Cybertruck.
If your vehicle requires an upgrade, contact your local Tesla Service Centre regarding an upgrade to a Gen4 charge port controller, Tesla part number 1537264-00-B. SWTCH recommends purchasing this part bundled with the CCS Combo 1 Adapter to allow access to a larger selection of fast charging stations.
