All private SWTCH chargers require a subscription because they are access-restricted. These chargers must be manually activated by SWTCH Support before they can be used.
This article explains when a subscription is required, how private charger access works, and how users can activate their charger.
1. What Is a SWTCH Subscription?
A SWTCH subscription is a recurring access fee associated with private chargers. It supports:
Exclusive or restricted charger access
Ongoing network connectivity
Charger monitoring and account administration
A subscription does not replace charging fees. Charging fees are billed separately using your SWTCH wallet. Subscription charges are billed directly to your card.
2. Chargers That Require a Subscription
Subscriptions apply only to private-access chargers.
Private–Individual Access (Sole Use)
Some chargers are:
Assigned to a single user
Installed in a private parking spot
Not accessible to other drivers
These chargers are not active by default and require both:
A SWTCH subscription
Manual activation by SWTCH Support
All users of private chargers must have a SWTCH account. Guest access is only available for public chargers.
Private–Shared Access (Property-Restricted Use)
Some chargers are installed by properties such as:
Condominiums or apartment buildings
Workplaces or office buildings
These chargers:
Are restricted to approved users (tenants or employees)
Are not open to the public
Users may be required to have a subscription to access these chargers. Charging fees apply separately.

3. How Users Are Informed About Their Access
Users eligible for private charger access receive a memo or communication from their property or installer. This explains:
Whether access is private-individual or private-shared
Subscription costs and billing details
Charging rates and usage policies
All pricing, costs, and policies are mandated by the property, not set within the SWTCH app.
4. How to Activate a Private Charger and Subscription
Private charger activation cannot be completed in the SWTCH app.
Steps to Activate:
Create a SWTCH account
All users of private chargers must have an active SWTCH account.
