You've arrived at a SWTCH charging station, ready to plug in. You glance at the charger's display, and it might say "Available." But then you check your SWTCH mobile app or the web app (charge.swtchenergy.com), and it shows the charger as "In Use," "Under Repair," or "Offline." Which one is telling the truth?
The answer is clear: the SWTCH mobile app or web app is always your most reliable source for the true, real-time status of any SWTCH charger.
Why the App is More Accurate
While the physical display on a charging station provides basic information, it doesn't always have a real-time, comprehensive connection to our central network. Here's why the app offers superior accuracy:
- Centralized, Real-Time Data: The SWTCH app and web app are directly connected to our cloud-based Charging Station Management System (CSMS). This system constantly receives live updates from every charger on the network. When a charger is in use, offline, or experiencing an issue, that information is immediately transmitted to our central system and reflected in the app.
- Network Connectivity Issues: A charger's local display might be powered on and appear functional, but the charger itself could have lost its internet connection. Without a network connection, it cannot communicate its true status back to our system, nor can it receive commands to start a session. The app, however, will show its "offline" status because it's not receiving that vital communication.
- Ongoing Sessions: A charger might appear physically available, but a charging session could be active. Perhaps the previous user initiated a session but pulled out their vehicle without properly ending it, or the session is continuing while they attend to other tasks. The app knows when a session is active, even if the vehicle isn't visibly plugged in.
- "Under Repair" Status: When a charger is marked "Under Repair" in the app, it means our team is actively aware of an issue and is working to diagnose or fix it. Even if the charger's physical screen might temporarily show a different message (like "available" before it fully registers the fault or after a temporary power cycle), the "Under Repair" status in the app indicates it is intentionally unavailable for public use while maintenance is underway. This status helps manage expectations and guides drivers to truly operational chargers.
- Remote Diagnostics & Control: Our CSMS can remotely identify issues with chargers, even if they're still displaying basic information. The app reflects these behind-the-scenes diagnostics, indicating if a charger is undergoing maintenance, troubleshooting, or is otherwise unavailable for new sessions.
What to Do When There's a Discrepancy
If you encounter a situation where the physical charger display and the SWTCH app show different statuses:
- Trust the App: Always defer to the status shown on the SWTCH mobile app or
charge.swtchenergy.com. It provides the most up-to-date and accurate information. - Report if Necessary: If you find a significant discrepancy or believe a charger is truly offline despite the app saying it's available, please report it to SWTCH customer support. Your feedback helps us maintain network accuracy.
By relying on the SWTCH mobile app or web app, you ensure you have the most precise information, helping you find truly available chargers and avoid unnecessary delays on your EV charging journey.
